Interacting in the precious lives of families is one of my very favorite parts of my job as a photographer.
You may recognize this sweet family. They were in my previous post with Annie looking like a hot mama while nearly full term with their soon to be born angel, Ansley Renee’. Annie just asked me off the cuff one day while we were discussing her proofs if I would be interested in shooting the delivery of their baby. I said yes of course! I felt so deeply honored to be asked into such an intimate and family-centered environment.
Annie had been having contractions for nearly a month and thought she would deliver early, but that was not to be the case. In fact, little baby Connors (they didn’t know they were having a girl!) was staying put and getting chunkier by the day. Annie’s doctor decided to make the call and bring her into the world. Annie was induced around 7 p.m. on Friday the 25th. I waited anxiously for a call and still into the next day, heard nothing from her. I thought that maybe things had happened quickly and she had forgotten to call me. That was okay with me, but I wondered how she was. Finally, around 6 p.m. on Saturday, she said they were breaking her water and that she would call me. Wow! She had been there for twenty-four hours at that point. Then around 10:30 that night I got the call to come. It was a thirty minute drive and I was worried I wouldn’t get there on time. Then at around 11:00 as I was looking for the hospital ( I thought I was lost!), she calls me and says, ” Are you almost here? They are telling me to push!” She navigated me in ( so calmly) and her husband met me at the door. When I walked into the room I expected everyone to be in a stressed out state, but there lay beautiful Annie, looking like a glamour queen and her beautiful mom and sister hugged me hello. I was amazed at Annie, who is a delivery room nurse herself.
Three or four pushes later and Ansley Renee’ Connors entered the room all at once, while Colin exclaimed “it’s a girl!” I barely got my gear set up in time!
What a joy! I was so blessed to be present in the midst of so much love and life. Ansley took it all in stride and hardly even cried. She awed us all with her calm demeanor ( like her mother) and perfectly shaped head. A Princess. When I asked Colin what he was going to do with his little girl, he replied “whatever she wants!”. She had his finger with her little five. She already had him wrapped.
Thank you, Colin and Annie for the letting me be part of your miracle. I will never forget it.
